Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)Long Island, NY
Intensive Addiction Treatment on Long Island through Outpatient Rehab. Our IOP provides multiple therapy sessions per week while allowing you to live at home and maintain work, school, and family responsibilities.
What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program?
An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a structured level of outpatient behavioral health services that provides 9-15+ hours of therapy per week while allowing you to live at home. IOP combines individual therapy and group therapy to address substance abuse, substance use disorders, and co-occurring mental health conditions effectively.
Treatment includes regular sessions with licensed social workers and addiction counselors, educational workshops, and skill-building groups. Both day and evening scheduling options are available to accommodate work, school, and family responsibilities.
“IOP provides structure between residential care and independent recovery. You can rebuild daily life while receiving regular support.”
Outpatient rehab includes multiple levels of care. IOP is a step-down from partial hospitalization program (PHP) or inpatient treatment, offering continued support as you transition to standard outpatient care.
Who IOP Is For
IOP is ideal for people who can't commit to 28-day residential programs but need more than weekly therapy. It's also the right step for those graduating from PHP, detox, or inpatient rehab who need continued structure. Standard outpatient alone may not be intensive enough to sustain early sobriety.
- Stepping down from partial hospitalization (PHP), detox, or residential treatment
- Working professionals and students who need evening flexibility
- Parents who must be present for their children
- Those with co-occurring mental health conditions needing dual diagnosis care
- Anyone seeking evidence-based outpatient behavioral health services
Therapies & Clinical Services
Our IOP combines proven therapies with clinical support including medication management, case coordination, and family counseling. Treatment plans are individualized by licensed social workers and addiction counselors to address both substance abuse and co-occurring mental health conditions.
- Group therapy focused on recovery skills & peer support
- Individual therapy with licensed addiction professionals
- Dual diagnosis treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders
- Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) including Suboxone, Sublocade & Vivitrol
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) & dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
- Relapse prevention education & skill-building workshops
- Family counseling & case management coordination
IOP vs Standard Outpatient
Both IOP and standard outpatient treatment are forms of outpatient behavioral health services. The primary difference is intensity: IOP provides more structured support with individual therapy and group sessions multiple times per week (typically 9-15+ hours), while standard outpatient treatment involves fewer hours (typically 1-8 hours). IOP is often recommended after completing a partial hospitalization program or as a step-up for those whose substance abuse requires more intensive care than weekly therapy.
Insurance Coverage
Most insurance plans cover IOP as part of outpatient addiction treatment. Our admissions team can verify your benefits in minutes.
Your Rights Under Parity Laws
Federal (MHPAEA) and NY state regulations ensure mental health and substance use disorder treatments are covered equally to physical health conditions. No more restrictive limits on visits or costs for addiction care.
For in-network providers, prior authorization is typically not required for outpatient addiction treatment, so you can start care without delays.
Flexible Scheduling
Our IOP offers day and evening options to accommodate work, school, and family life. Sessions run 3-6 days per week. This includes individual therapy with social workers and group sessions, so you can address substance abuse while maintaining your daily responsibilities.
